Real Estate and Community Information

The History of the Elma WA Real Estate Market Spans More Than 1,000 Years The first people who settled near our area included a group of Chehalis and Quinault Indians who arrived near our area approximately 1,000 years ago. They constructed longhouses that overlooked the Chehalis River Valley. They also hunted and fished in territories that overlooked Grays Harbor.

The first American settlers arrived in our area approximately 175 years ago. Many of these people were homesteaders who worked at lumber camps and on farms that still play a role in our economy. Other settlers included Joseph Young and James Long Waldrip who platted our area's first neighborhoods in 1875.

Interest in homes for sale in our area increased during the late 19th century after the Tacoma, Olympia and Grays Harbor Railroad established railroad service near what is now our downtown area. This development fueled interest in commercial properties in our area during the early 20th century.

Modern interest in our realty market was established during the early 1970s after a chemical manufacturing plant and Satsop Development Park was constructed in the area. Many people who relocated to our area during this time also discovered the recreational activities that have made Grays Harbor a popular destination for outdoor enthuisasts for many years.

Elma is now a modern city that offers home buyers a friendly atmosphere, low crime rates and convenient access to many outdoor recreational activities. These benefits make living in Elma WA worthwhile for anyone who relocates to our area.
